SRK's friends call him 'problem child'

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says his friends have started calling him a "problem child" for his constant brush with controversies.

"My friend just called me a 'problem child'... always in trouble. I think it is true...it would be so boring to be a 'solution adult'," Shah Rukh posted on his Twitter page.

In wake of allegations of financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League (IPL), income tax officials had visited Shah Rukh's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) office in Kolkata and claimed to have unearthed vital clues.

The superstar is hoping that clouds of suspicion and uncertainty will soon be over.

"IPL controversy: fast, furious and too much noise. Like the T20 itself. Hope it gets resolved as fast too for our friend Lalit & franchises," added the actor.

I got liver cirrhosis from Coolie accident: Big B

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan Saturday revealed he suffers from liver cirrhosis even though he doesn't drink alcohol. The actor said he contracted the disease after his near fatal accident while shooting for Coolie in 1982.

"Friends, relatives, well wishers and the workers and staff of our pharmaceutical factory, all lined up (to give blood). I lived. That was 1982, almost 28 years ago. But in and around the year 2000-2002, a routine investigation threw up a scenario which had hitherto gone undetected," the actor posted on his blog.

Amitabh met with the accident during one of the action scenes in the film Coolie. His surgery required a lot of blood. The urgency of its administration propelled several volunteers to come forward. Two hundred people donated blood and 60 bottles of blood were collected and injected in the actor. But, this caused the problem.

"Some of the blood from an unknown donor was infected with the Australian antigen Hepatitis. This particular infection or mode in a particular blood donor has the unique quality of getting active inside the system after lying dormant for a couple of months.

"It was also an unknown hepatitis in 1982 and there were, perhaps due to the urgency of the matter, no known immediate tests to ascertain its existence before it was administered. So it went into my system, festered and attacked my liver.

"Eight years ago, during the course of an MRI, they discovered that 25 percent of my liver had been destroyed by it. I was, therefore, technically or shall we say in medical terminology, a patient by default. A patient that had developed cirrhosis of the liver - a condition that is normally associated with that of an alcoholic. So here I was, a non- alcoholic, a teetotaller, with an ailment that I imbibed through a blood transfusion from a donor," he added.

Because of this problem, the 67-year-old actor has to get himself monitored on a regular basis.

"Now since the liver and any ailment associated with it is extremely sensitive, I have to be under constant vigil and monitoring, to keep checking if there is any further damage taking place. A few days back my blood report showed a sudden rise in my liver counts and the doctor felt it necessary to investigate further through an MRI. For me, this is an every three month procedure," Amitabh said.

Ram or Raavan? Southern superstar Vikram plays both

Southern superstar Vikram is playing Raavan and Rama in Mani Ratnam's new film! Confused? So was the actor, who plays opposite roles in the Hindi and Tamil versions of the film Raavan.

While in the Hindi version he plays Aishwarya Rai's cop husband Dev, in the Tamil version he plays the brutal outlaw Veera. Both the versions were shot simultaneously.

Vikram was constantly running in and out of the two completely different characters, makeup and languages, sometimes within half an hour.

Says a source, "It got really taxing for him. While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the same character in two languages, Vikram had to go from Raavan in Telugu to Rama in Hindi after every shot. At one point he almost lost the plot."

One day the film's dress designer Sabyasachi Chakrabarty had dropped in on location to discuss Vikram's look and clothes. Vikram was informed by Mani Ratnam's assistant that he needed to sit with Sabyasachi to discuss his look with him for the film.

When the two of them met, both began to give their viewpoints to each other about how the character played by Vikram would dress up in the film.

Says Vikram: "Within half an hour of discussing the character's look, we both realised that something was terribly wrong. I wanted my looks to be simple and minimalist so that I didn't have to change much from the way I am. I suggested to Sabyasachi to keep my skin-tone black. On the other hand, Sabyasachi was keen on a suave and clean look. And was very confused as to why I was given such a strange brief."

Sabyasachi felt Vikram's look couldn't be dark, and told Vikram that if he was so keen on a dark look then maybe he could try and do something dark but formal.

Laughs Vikram. "I suggested a dhoti. Sabyasachi got really worked up and told me it was no longer funny, and asked me if I was really sure about my character Dev dressing like a rugged rustic character. That's when both of us realised the confusion. I was talking about the looks of Veera (the outlaw character), my character in the Tamil version, and Sabyasachi was talking about Dev (the cop), the character I'm playing in the Hindi version."

Explains Vikram, "In the Hindi version it's Abhishek Bachchan who is the outlaw character. And the fact that I'm playing two opposite characters in the two versions had caused the confusion."

Though exhausted by the effort, Vikram thoroughly enjoyed the unprecedented challenge of playing two characters at the same time in two languages.

Vikram, one of the foremost Tamil actors, will dub his own lines for the Hindi version of Raavan.

When Big B was mistaken as Shah Rukh Khan

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan was in for a surprise at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport recently when an uniformed officer mistook him for actor Shah Rukh Khan.

The 67-year-old actor was on his way back to the country when he was mobbed at the airport and had to oblige them with autographs. But he was in for a shock when he was mistaken for King Khan.

Recounting his experience, Bachchan wrote in his blog, "Airports are strange places. KLIA is no different from any airport where the staff would immediately recognize any celebrity, except a few exceptions. They mob and ask for pictures and stuff... I oblige... it makes them happy.

"They seem to be obsessed with our cinema and with our artists. One today, uniformed and medalled, walked past me in the crowded duty free, turned back after expressing some recognition and smiled - 'hello .. Mr ShahRukh Khan'," Bachchan wrote.

The veteran actor, one of the most famous Bollywood faces abroad, did not know how to react and is still in two minds whether he should take it as a compliment or not.

"I am still debating in my head whether I should take this as a compliment or not. For the official to find absolute dedication in his name giving, sends me a healthy feeling. I shall remain with it...," he wrote.

Volcanic ash foils Katrina's travel to London

Katrina Kaif was to travel to London to be with her family but her plans were foiled and she was stranded at Mumbai's international airport as volcanic ash erupting from Ireland enveloped major parts of Europe and paralysed air traffic.

"It was a very important family function. And I had to attend. I never realised it'd be impossible to make it. When I reached the Mumbai airport I came to know about what had happened. I was still not disheartened because I thought at the most, I'd be delayed... as I often am. When it comes to travel, one learns to be patient at airports," Katrina said.

Little did she realise that she would have to return home.

"Such things are bound to happen increasingly if we continue to abuse our environment. Personally, I wouldn't have minded missing the flight. But it was a very important family gathering. Not being part of it really hurt," the actress said.

Until Sunday night Katrina was desperately trying to find other means of travelling to London.

"I don't care if it is by train or boat. I've to get to London," she said frantically.

Abhishek, Ash to celebrate third anniversary in US

Bollywood star couple Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai are set to ring in their third wedding anniversary Tuesday in the US, according to sources close to the actors.

Abhishek's father Amitabh Bachchan on his blog Sunday said that the couple was taking a flight to New York.

A source close to the couple told IANS from Mumbai, "The two have gone to an undisclosed destination and will be back in time for the music release of Raavan on April 24."

Abhishek too posted on his Twitter page: "...It's Houdini time again. Have managed to abduct the wife. See you all soon."

According to another source, the duo have been planning this holiday so that they could spend some time together after keeping busy with their respective shooting schedules.

Last year, the actors took out time for a week-long vacation while they were shooting for Mani Ratnam's Raavan, which is among their most awaited films this year.

On their first anniversary, Abhishek was busy shooting in Miami for Dostana, but wife Aishwarya joined him there.

The couple got married in 2007 in a grand wedding ceremony at Bachchan's residence Prateeksha in Mumbai.

Preview: Paathshala

Paathshala tries to answer many questions related to the sanctity of today's education system.

The story begins with a new English teacher Rahul Prakash Udyavar (Shahid Kapoor) joining Swaraswati Vidya Mandir school, situated in the outskirts of Mumbai Suburbs.

Though he strikes an instant rapport with students and teachers alike, he realises that there is something amiss in the school. Slowly his doubts prove true as the School Manager- Sharma (Saurabh Shukla) makes many monetary obligations compulsory on the parents in the name of extracurricular activities.

He goes to the extent of punishing the students inhumanly when the new unjustified demands of the school are not fulfilled by the parents.

When Rahul Udyawar unifies the teachers (Ayesha Takia, Sushant Singh, Kurush Deboo) against the atrocities of school management, the Principal Aditya Sahay (Nana Patekar) defends the management decision. This comes as a shocker to the teachers as Mr Sahay is known for his dedication as an educationist for last 32 years which has built the school's high reputation.

The situation becomes grave as school management becomes overambitious with its growth and involves media planners in the extracurricular activities.

This demands the involvement of students in TV reality shows and many other media PR activities used for building up the school image in public, which starts reflecting on the students' stress levels.
The pressure on young minds increases incredibly leading to unexpected and grim consequences.
Caught in the web of commercialisation and internal rebellion, the school's situation becomes so explosive that it finally becomes a national issue.

Paathshaala challenges the increasing immoralities and unethical practices in our education system. It analyses intricately the relationship between students, teachers and the education system with sensitivity and sensibility... It reflects the true spirit of an education system.
